SKIP
KNILEY
5,000+ jumps
Organizing Experience
Skip has been jumping since 1969 and organizing jumps since 1974. Organizational
experiences include, load organizing, professional demonstration jumps, large
star record attempts, Para-ski competitions and the OFET (Olympic Opening Ceremonies
-- 1984).
Other Big Way, Competition & Skydiving Experience
Skip
has jumped and competed in RW for over 30 years. His favorite accomplishments
are creating/jumping the 84 Olympic opening ceremonies OFET team, living beyond
the 80’s, jumping on Tom Piras’s original world-class TAG team, learning
from Jerry Bird, numerous large star world records and LOing throughout Europe
and Africa with the Pink Skyvan for over 15 years.
Personal Thoughts
Skip’s philosophy about managing skydiving groups with diverse jumping
abilities is that they can be successfully arranged to achieve any planned outcome.
It is totally dependent upon the ability of an organizer who can actively demonstrate
sincere positive leadership characteristics and construct an insightful and logical
placement plan that falls fast. Additionally, an LO must have a firm commitment
to bring out the best of each diver with a willingness to communicate with every
individual on a personal level. Gaps of experience are best filled with genuine
encouragement and solid dive-mechanics advice. Cutting is an act performed by
jump pilots only. He believes that in properly organized loads, there is never
a reason to crush spirit with an axe; mistakes are lessons, human can learn. "Take
the challenge, don’t cover your ass."
